Learning Through Christ
Christian education is central to the mission of our congregation and the Lutheran tradition. As there are many ways to experience and know God, so we offer a wide range of educational opportunities to both open our hearts and minds to the movement of God's spirit in our lives and to enrich our spiritual journey. As such, we are committed to offering educational experiences for all, from the youngest to the oldest. Here is a sampling of what we are currently studying:
SUNDAY SCHOOL
PRE K - K
We use Whirl, a biblically-based curriculum that will help our children explore and understand the central stories and teachings of the Bible for pre k.
GRADES 1 - 6
"Godly Play is the product of a lifetime of research and practice by theologian, author and educator, the Rev. Dr. Jerome Berryman. It began with the proposition that children have a natural sense of God and that what they lack is the appropriate language to help them identify and express it so it can be explored and strengthened. The Godly Play approach teaches classical Christian language in a way that does not block or distort the child's authentic experience of God but enhances it so it can contribute to the creative life of the child and the world. Godly Play teaches children the art of using Christian language–parable, sacred story, silence and liturgical action–helping them become more fully aware of the mystery of God's presence in our lives."
Different units utilizing Godly Play are used throughout the year.
GRADES 7 - 8 CONFIRMATION
Classes are held at various times based upon the class members schedules. This year the classes are Sundays after church.
